Amazon is going to host a product event in New York City on February 26, where updates about Alexa, the digital assistant, are expected to be announced. During the event, which is run by the Senior Vice President of Devices and Services at Amazon, Panos Panay, an advanced version of Alexa could be launched with more AI-powered capabilities.
The company has struggled to monetize Alexa with tens of millions of devices just sitting in homes. The way forward, to date, has been to sell them low and more, selling other products in return. Thus far, the company has been losing money on its devices division.
Amazon is getting ready to launch and has been redesigning Alexa’s core system; the upgraded version is supposed to go head-to-head with the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
